I hated the programming model, I hated the graphics, I hated the documentation, I hated the fonts, I hated the toolkit, I hated the PC attitude of the developers.

I've cooled on KDE because it has become so bloated, but it's still miles beyond GNOME and has a nice, well-mannered, open-minded developer community, as well as a kick-ass toolkit to work with (in the context of C++ at least).

Nowadays I'm mostly Windowmaker, which I use to run KDE apps like konqueror without the complete KDE environment.
