New Australian free speech hangs on an insult

From today's Sydney Morning Herald (Wed 8th Oct - pg 7

"Free speech debate hangs on an insult"

gist of this story is that a man is challenging a Queensland law that resulted in his arrest for handing out a brochure in whech he called police

"slimy lying bastards" [hmmm - I thought that was terms of endearment in Qld - DSM]

The man is claiming that a blanket ban on using insulting language in public, curtails his implied constitutional right to free political speech.

His barrister argued that under this law, anyone who heckled the Prime Minister was at risk of breaking this law.

The judges & barristers are still debating the issue & an outcome is expected tomorrow.

Cheers Doug

New So, Doug....What happened?
It's a week later here....;-)

Boy I'd like to see those words on a PR banner behind [Treasury Secretary John] Snow at the podium:
Jobs and Growth: Just Wait.
