where he will meet with the Australian PM John Blair (this was how it was reported in the official US press release :-)

and will address a joint sitting of the Aust Parliment.


1st point is our PM is called John Howard. The bemused Oz announcer then quiped that this reflected US understanding of the world.

(stories here recently talk of Bush's proposed visit being cut short due to growing hostility to him and his 'liberation' of Iraq & that Howard is worried about being seen as too 'close' to Bush just prior to our own next election (also in 2004)).

New I'm not really surprised.
My parents just came bck from a 3 week holiday in the US and Canada. There was *no* AU news mentioned anywhere. They felt a bit starved for local news by the time they got home! ;-)

If it weren't for PBS.. the *only* Oz anyone watchin the newsfotainment would ever know - would have two occupants: Dorothy and Toto (the only Muricans - never mind them aliens in that-Oz either).

(I wish I were exaggerating..)
