New Woman sues over storage ordeal

Wanda Hudson nearly starved after spending nine weeks locked inside a storage space she had rented.

[...]

Two months later, a customer using a nearby unit heard sounds coming from the unit. It was Hudson, who apparently had survived on juice and canned foods.

New Jury awards her $100,000
The follow-up story was in the local paper, but not on their website, and Google hasn't provided it yet:

A woman who claimed she was locked inside a rented storage space for 63 days was awarded $100,000 Monday by a jury.

[...]

(Wanda) Hudson testified that creditors had foreclosed on her home and tossed her possessions into the street, forcing her to rent an enclosure measuring 30 feet by 10 feet from Parkway. She paid a month's rent, then moved her furniture and other belongings inside, her attorney Mallory Mantiply said.

[...]

Hudson was vague about why she was in the storage unit so late on Nov. 7, and denied she heard the metal door close. Parkway's attorney, Burt Taylor, suggested she was sleeping and, furthermore, that she had been living in the unit. She denied Taylor's supposition.

Hudson claimed she was staying with a sister in West Mobile, but under cross examination from Taylor, said that no one filed a missing persons report, despite the lengthy time she spent in the unit.

I think that the storage place's lawyer was right: she was living in the unit because she felt that she had no other options, but they are at fault for locking her in for 63 days.

New Fortunate she had food - what about water??
New Life imitates art: Snow Crash

Neal Stephenson's future distopia has the Hiro Protagonist living in a storage unit. Frankly, the concept has some appeal....

New Random lore suggests -
most such places patrol against such - it ain't a new realization, epecially with our growing horde of dispossessed. My guess is that.. eventually there will be some Insurance rewrites to accommodate a Fact that won't go away.
