6. "Captain Underpants" by Dav Pilkey, for insensitivity and being unsuited to age group, as well as encouraging children to disobey authority.

Author was on NPR a few days ago; hilarious interview by the incomparable Terry Gross. Don't know the book, but - what he is likely guilty of is speaking in perfectly plain 'un-silly-suggestive' language about what most folks have conditioned selves to automatic euphemisms about, by ~ age 10 ie. prolly..

Not a good primer before addressing the PTA as guest kid speaker (or talking to John Ashcroft, on Security Patrol at your school). OTOH re the latter .. WTF Not!? (save the video for posterity)

..That Maya Angelou, Roald Dahl, and Toni Morrison [!] are on these cockamamie lists - demonstrates the genetic damage wreaked by Puritanism on this entire fucked culture. IQ is never Enough. Oh well..

Betcha that Duncan would grok Feynman's What Do You Care What Other People Think? and likely his other books for folks.. (I know I would have, at ~ age 12 - except that RPF hadn't written it then)
Hell, maybe even the Lectures !? pretty soon..
