Check out Sept. 22 InfoWorld
A bunch of us got quoted in an article on Code Editors vs. IDEs.
Wonder how that happened? ;-)
BTW, Thanks Maggie!

Except...
I never really said this: We\ufffdre always trying to find tools that will help our programmers be as productive as possible. :-P

I know....
...editors....always looking to be politically correct. sorry 'bout that...
It did get chopped up quite a bit, but Wade's one quote re: vi did get nice big play in the dead tree version.

Heh, figured.
Is the dead tree version significantly different?

difference...
....dead tree version had quotes blown up and a chart of some code editing tools, but the chart got chopped quite a bit, too. So, a lot of people are writing me this week saying "you forgot tool X, Y, or Z"....oh well.
Are there other topics you think need focus and/or expert quotes? Always open to ideas though the day job and school have me pretty busy these days so not as much time to write.
In any event, thanks for the quotes! I appreciate the help.

Which one? :-)
I've never seen InfoWorld in print Down Under and the version on the web seems incomplete.

this one...
..."I've yet to use an IDE where I can enter or edit code as quickly as I can using VIM."
If someone can give me a place to put a PDF that is linkable, I can probably get the dead tree version into a PDF and online.

I can put it up, if you like.
Email it to me. (my username) at yceran dot org.

I rembered! PDF is up for those interested.
Okay, it's at [link|http://yceran.org/iwethey/code_editors.pdf|http://yceran.org/iw.../code_editors.pdf] and it's 2.5Mb 'cause Maggie scanned the dead-tree pages.

Something amusing to think about...
The only way that that group of people would ever end up "saying" something on Infoworld's website again is to be quoted by Maggie in an article... ;-)

Question...
Could a quote like mine trigger a BSA audit for our company?
We were contacted Tuesday September 16th for a BSA audit. I had assumed that an employee dismissed the week before had called them. However, the "obvious" person denies having called them, and he doesn't typically lie. We dismissed a number of people that day, so it is possible another dismissed employee could have called.
I know some companies might get advance copies of magazine articles, but I was skeptical that anyone would get it 6 days in advance.
To be completely clear, Maggie, the OptimizeIt!/JBuilder quote was in reference to my using it at a prior employer. At that employer, we were fully licensed for JBuilder Enterprise, for several seats.
My current employer, iSoft, Inc., does not use JBuilder, and we are not currently in the process of any Java software development. I downloaded an eval version of JBuilder in May/June when I started there, but this version was dated, expired, and has since been removed from my system.
My concern is that my boss will think that my quotes in a magazine could have triggered the audit. If he carries this too far, it could be serious.

Answer....
No, no one is able to obtain the articles in advance.
The article would have first been viewable on the evening of the 19th online (late PT) and then 22nd in print.

Thanks!
That put my mind at ease. I thought I heard in the hall that this was trigged by some "automatic" check by some vendor.
