Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Linux Xwindow config issue.
Go easy on me - I'm not entirely certain what I am doing.

I just installed Debian 2.2r3 on a K6/2-300, 96mb RAM, Voodoo 3 3000 system. Tried to start xwindow by doing a "startx" at the command prompt, from a user account as opposed to root. I have not logged in as root yet. This system has a PS/2 mouse. During config, I told the system I had a PS/2 mouse, and set it up to (as near as I can tell) use the SVGALib video library.

X has never started. Every time I try to launch it, I get the following:

[begin error message]

System: '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/xkbcomp -w 1 -R/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb -xkm -m en_US -em1 "The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:" -emp "> " -eml "Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the x server" keymap/xfree86 /var/tmp/xfree86.xkm'

Fatal server error:
Cannot open mouse (No such file or directory)

[end error message]

Any thoughts?
New Check your mouse config line
Sounds like it can't find the mouse device.

You might try psaux instead of mouse. That's in Redhat, though... dunno about Devian. :-)

New We have a winner!
psaux it is.
New rerun the X nstall script
and choose bus mouse. With redhat I get that error a lot as it switched from ps2 or busmouse that works on almost every other installation.
thanx,
bill
can I have my ones and zeros back?
New Perhaps /dev/mouse doesn't exist.
It's usually a link to the correct port.

Wade.
