New You know the reason don't you?
Take a look at [link|http://www.sfo.com/~csuppes/NFL/ClevelandBrowns/aerial.jpg|either] of [link|http://i.cnn.net/si/images/football/nfl/stadiums/browns.jpg|these]. The thing the new Bears stadium has in common is that there's no way in hell to retrofit a dome 5-10 years from now. In Cleveland there were a lot of people saying that for the price of a new stadium they could do major renovations at the old one and put a dome on it. The owner said he'd leave the city if he didn't get a new, single-use facility. Every new design with a dome was shot down: they knew if there was a dome someone would want to hold other events there.

New They still didn't need to make it look like s**t
The Browns' stadium looks great. If Chicago really, really didn't want a dome (and that IS a characteristic of good football teams!), they could have accomplished it, yet still wind up with an attractive stadium. But instead 'da Bears' ended up with an abomination.

The Bear's linemen are screwed. Instead of razzing them by talking about 'yo momma', all the opposition has to do is reference the pansy, candy-assed stadium they call home.

Halas must be spinning in his grave.
