New MySQL Question...
I just installed the version from Stable Debian 3.0r1 and got version 3.23-49.

The MySQL website is showing a 4.0 something version as stable.

Is it in my best interest to upgrade (I'm starting to use MySQL for some stuff), or is there not enough in 4.0 to matter? Or is 4.0 buggy (like most .0 releases)?

Just curious. I think I have most of what I need with 3.23, but I just wanted to hear some diverse opinions.

I also have PostGreSQL installed on the machine, but it appears that MySQL support is built into PHP, vs. some kind of add-on support for PostGres.

Any thoughts?

I'm going to be prototyping some calendaring ideas I have (and have discussed on the board here.)

New Thoughts.
4.0 adds transaction support ("BEGIN" and "COMMIT") and IIRC another database file type. It is supposed to also be generally faster. IOW, if 3.23 gives you everything, then 4.0 is probably not worth it.

PHP 4.x has support for PostGres. I haven't used it but it is in the manual. In RedHat, the PostGreSQL support in PHP is an extra RPM; but so is MySQL.

I'd rather be Anything but Ordinary
