Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I've always considered "water cooler" to be more personal
discussion about things involving you or your family.
Darrell Spice, Jr. [link|http://www.spiceware.org/cgi-bin/spa.pl?album=./Artistic%20Overpass|Artistic Overpass]\n[link|http://www.spiceware.org/|SpiceWare] - We don't do Windows, it's too much of a chore
New What he said...
Scuttlebutt and so on as well for me... things that are non-technical (or they are too) as long as a good story or something is on it.

Like me Ribbing Drook aout that "Check is in the mail" that still hasn't arrived ... SINCE JULY 4th....

Or about how I now have confirmation that I have a dog with allergies...

We mock him, because he is so sedate... we call him "A tender Gay boy-Dog with Allergies" not because I don;t like Gay people... far from it... Just that he acts dainty so often it is pathetic.

New Re: What he said...
Scuttlebutt? Hmmm ok I get it all except the scuttlebutt part. :)

So let me get this straight:

The Water Cooler is more personal, more about your life or to another member?
i.e. my question to Orion should have been there?

And Open Forum is... general? Does it have any other definition? cause Q and A was for any question that didn't go anywhere else.

Almost got it, thanks.

New Open Forum vs General Q&A
[link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/forum/show?forumid=23|General Q&A] is in the "Area 51" section of zIWeThey. Area 51 (a takeoff on the alien spaceship Area 51 out west) is for technical discussions. So General Q&A should be used for technical questions that don't fit elsewhere in Area 51.

Note that [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/forum/show?forumid=1|Open Forum] has forumid = 1. It was the first forum here. It's the most general. Other more specialized forums were created later. So if a more specialized forum exists and is a fit for your topic, you should use it.

If you've used Usenet, the forum organization philosophy is similar here. Use the least general forum that fits. I.e. don't post something in comp.os if it would fit better in comp.os.ms-windows.installation (or whatever).

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Re: Open Forum vs General Q&A
Thanks for explaining that. :)

No, I've never used use.net, but I'm trying to fit topics into the right place as much as I can here. :)

Appreciate the information, I had no idea what Area 51 was. :)

The haddock hits me with a sucker punch. I catch him with a left hook. He eels over. It was a fluke, but there he was, lying on the deck... flat as a mackerel. Kelpless.
