Welcome to IWETHEY!

New And now it's time for another edition of...
"Stupid things Windows does."

Users are using an ActiveX control in a web-based application. About once every 30 minutes, +/-30 minutes, they get a popup telling them that they've disconnected from the internet, and would they like to continue to work offline?

Reconnecting reconnects them.

Systems are all Windows XP, patched to the gills.

Guess what solved it?

Install Windows Media Player 9.

Don't ask me why.
In that final hour, when each breath is a struggle to take, and you are looking back over your life's accomplishments, which memories would you treasure? The empires you built, or the joy you spread to others?

Therin lies the true measure of a man.
New That's how things are with windows.
Recently, for no particular reason, my WindowsME system has taken to reseting to 800x600 mode when I boot it. No idea why and it happens about 75% of the time.

Jay
New WinME?
Jeez. [link|http://www.debian.org|We have the way out].

New Not going away
I'm to the point that the only thing I do on Windows is play games. And for that it isn't going away any time soon.

On the other hand, my Linux system is Red Hat, so your probably still going to be suggesting Debian as the solution for that.

Jay
New Oh yes.
You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile. Drink the Kool-Aid. Etc.

New Once you do...
You WILL NOT go back.

I did. It just happened. You'll see.

This should be to Jay, but I am lazy... Debian makes me that way. Nice feeling.

[insert witty saying here] nah... I'm just to lazy this time.
New Ugh, no, not that
Media Player 9 is Spyware. Guess it updated the ActiveX control causing the problem? Find that control, and update it manually to each machine to avoid MP 9.0 to be installed.
