New Interesting Win98 Login problem
PC being preped for college student used to be on a corp network with domain login. Registry was set to not cache passwords, but I changed that. Passwords now get registered in SYSTEM.INI and XXX.PWL files are made in \\Windows as expected.

Problem is, the last used password doesn't show up in the Login box at startup or after loging out. Made new password, still no show. Problem is not so much forcing the person to type both login name and password, but that Win98 is perfectly happy to make a new login with new passwords every time someone mistypes the login name.

Anyone know how to get that login name to stick?

New install tweakui
You can set it there - see "paranoia" section.

also - try key HKLM/Network/Logon, add a string value "username", set as desired.

New Well, that was the right place
The last login name was there just as it should be, but there was another DWord in there:
DontShowLastUser = 1
Pretty obvious what to do. Thanks
