New but but but
maybe it was triggered from the Blaster Worm?
New Re: but but but
maybe it was triggered from the Blaster Worm?

Well they are saying it was overload in the system from too many people running airconditioners and things. The one main power station blew and caused some kind of ripple effect blowing others in the path.

They've talked about it all afternoon, even preempted my show (it's going to be on in the wee hours), but they still don't know everything yet, or how long it will be out.

Hope everyone in here is ok. I'll pray for the power to get back on soon, and for all those stranded in on the freeway and in trains, subways and airports to get home safe.

Where were you in 72?
New Gladly.

And though you hold the keys to ruin of everything I see/With every prison blown to dust, my enemies walk free/Though all the kingdoms turn to sand and fall into the sea/ I'm mad about you I'm mad about you
New Re: Gladly.
Hmmm....

I figured he was being slightly sarcastic, but I didn't know where else to reply to post the information I wanted to add... I thought I should reply to the last part of the thread... ah well.. I've had a completely shitty day, so I'm sorry if I screwed up.

New No need for sorrow
As Small Gods explains.. Gods which get less and less attention lose Power and eventually wither into teensy voices in the desert - so it's a good idea to Name *your* fav-one a lot: makes 'em Grow.

Well, I'm still reading "Tyranny", although I read about half of it last night when I was having insomnia... hehe. I haven't gotten to "Small Gods" yet.

But I only have one God, and I name him daily. :)

New There is serious speculation now on bugtraq
...that it IS blaster-related. I invite you all to peruse recent bugtraq postings regarding this. Keyword: SCADA.
"There's a set of rules that anything that was in the world when you were born is normal and natural. Anything invented between when you were 15 and 35 is new and revolutionary and exciting, and you'll probably get a career in it. Anything invented after you're 35 is against the natural order of things."

Douglas Adams
New Specifically?

I wholeheartedly invite you to embrace this newfangled technology called the World Wide Web and provide a Uniform Resource Locator pointer to the references you have in mind.

New If you cared, you'd look yourself,
and realize I didn't post links 'cause I don't have time right now.

Douglas Adams
New I'd looked...

...but wasn't sure which refs you were referring to. SCADA, for those trying to figure out what it means, is "supervisory control and data aquisition" -- essentially a remote admin and monitoring facility. I had to go through about four levels of links to find that, on an informational page, buried in the endnotes. Piss poor design there. Define your acronyms on first use.

\r\n\r\n

I've posted stuff with a proviso "I'll add links later" or just drop a link with brief (very brief) commentary.. Works for me, different strokes.
