Funny scene today
..on one of Atlanta's smog and expensive car choked streets:
I am on Rocinante, and I sense this massive grey presence behind me - a little too close behind my Missouri-plated thoroughbred. Some asshole in a Hummer - chromed out Hummer to be specific - is right on my tail. I look back, straight into his eyes, then look over his moving monument to stupidity and consumptiveness, and shake my head in derision that someone would be caught in public driving such a thing. This really pissed him off, so when the light turned green, he blasted around me - probably with his would-be NASCAR foot on the floor, and disappeared down the road.
A few minutes later I see him pulled over and out of the "car" (remember Atlanta is really the model police state city). I gave him a gentle "beep" on my anaemic Jap bike horn as I'm passing by.
I hope his insurance doubles.

Chromed out Hummer?
That'd be a Hummer 2, a model recently created for conspicuous consumers who can't afford a real Hummer. Drivers of this ersatz vehicle deserve nothing but derision.

Hey, and don't badmouth rice-burner bikes. Some of my fondest memories of applied stupidity were on my Yamaha 360 enduro....

My dad used to play speed-trap chicken
Toward the end of every month[1] on his way in to work he would see them setting up the speed trap at the bottom of a hill on a deceptively winding residential street. On the way home he would know it was coming. He'd hold scrupulously to the speed limit with, for instance, the 22-year-old girl in a huge new Cadillac 2 feet off his back tire. Until about 100 feet before you could see the speed trap. Then he'd pull over and wave her by.
Usually he'd wave to them on the way by. The cops just smiled and shook their heads.

Dude, support my local economy...

They make those things here where I live. The local economy needs the infusion of jobs and cash that the icon of narcissistic, fu - AHHHHHHHM safe provides my town.
Admit it... You were just plain old jealous.
:-)
When I grow up, I'm gonna get rid of my Ford Expedition and get a real car. A Hummer H2.
FU.
Just a few thoughts,

But take your time, think a lot, Why, think of everything you've got. For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.

Jealous of a Hummer? Nah.
One hit from a RPG and Bad Things Happen.
When I grow up, I'm getting an Abrams M1.

Maybe not
One hit from a RPG and Bad Things Happen. There's a heavy aromored variant. One of them hit an anti-tank mine in Gulf I. Totalled the Hummer but the four crewmen walked away with nothing worse than headaches. Try that in your minivan.
