New Messed up Canon drivers
I've done the same thing, clicked on a forum to post the thread to, and forgot to check the "As new topic" box.

One size fits all drivers, don't always work. Sometimes you have to get the drivers for your OS, or use a driver for an older model of printer that yours emulates and try that one. Apparently Norton Utilities for DOS uses an Epson or some other printer code set so it can print from DOS, or maybe it just does a straight ASCII print from DOS with no codes? Try a "Generic Text Only" printer driver and point it to your printer port and see if you can print a text only page from Notepad. If this works, you may just need a different driver. If it messes up, there may be a problem with Windows related to printing DLLs and other things. The "Generic Text only" driver is under the "Generic" Manufacturers listing.

Maybe this Canon driver page from Printer-Drivers.com will help?

You might find it on Canon's web site [link|http://www.canon.com|http://www.canon.com] but it is hard to navigate.

They say to remove all Canon drivers before upgrading to XP, or you might have problems.

New Thanks, noted.
Usually I manage to check [] boxes. One never Knows.

Yes the old DOS drivers are Epson and IBM Laserjet (certainly akin.. to inkjets in several ways). 'Twas the HP which produced a ~OK page - thus vetting all cables, connectors, ports and the (already self-tested) printer.

Think I'll Really deinstall the Canon Omni-driver, including wash & rinse of Registry & inspection of all the usual suspect dirs for remnants with same dates.. then rummage around for an old 200ex driver - which the party may even have.

Yes too - found earlier that Canon site nav sucks. (Yet their 35 MM camera division once did me a quite nice turn. Mixed feelings.)

Windows sucks. But most folks haven't a prayer of managing even Knoppix, with which none of their friends can help them. So I have to keep running into this nasty toy POS. Like youse guys. At least I can ignore the sucker for long periods.

So yeah, this is a thing. One of those things that you come across online that makes you think, "That's enough internet for the day."
