They may indeed have resolved to fight to the death, but no account I've heard or read thus far suggests that they did themselves in. How might they have responded to a shitload of tear gas? Sure, they might have turned their weapons upon themselves, but they might also, impelled by sheer animal aversion impulse, come staggering blinded outside, in which case one or both of them might have been snagged alive, leading perhaps to...
