Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I want (and I might get)
My boss is teasing me.

Well, really the CTO, ie: my boss' boss.
I'm his pet geek so he give me toys.

I saw this release and sent it to the CTO and the IT director.

I suggested that we not buy any more dual Xeon compute servers
until this is released, if possible.

His response was that we should get a new dual 2.0 Ghz Mac
in to test since it runs the same chip.

I volunteered to use it as my desktop. Always willing to sacrifice
for the company. Note: My current desk top is a PIII-700.

He reponded by upping the memory to 8GB and tacking on the
23" LCD display.

WWHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Now I have a problem. I currently have 2 x 21" flat screen (not LCD)
monitors. Can I use these as well as the LCD? 5 more screens
and I'm in Swordfish (bad movie)

Also, I've committed to burning his home movies onto the DVD.
I'm not proud.

Still not sure if he's teasing though. Having this computer on the desktop
is a reason to go to work though.

Hmm.
Can I use my IBM keyboard on it?
What about my Kensington Expert Mouse?

Oooooohhh. My sysadmin is going to HATE me. He made the
suggestion that we should bring in this box about a month ago
to test. But as a competitor to the current Xeons, not as a test
bench for the IBM about to come out with the same chip. Made
no sense until now. He's a rabid Mac proponent.

Don't care. IT'S MINE! MY PRECIOUS! MINE!

Boy, your life is rough, ain't it?

Anyway, congratulations! I'd love to have even one of the single CPU models, but I just can't justify it right now. Sounds like you're going to have a great time. (Be sure to give us regular reports after you get it set up.)

Your KB and mouse should be fine if they're USB. To what extent (ie: anything beyond a right mouse button and a scroll wheel) I don't know.

As for displays, looks like it comes with one ADC and one DVI socket, so you can get at least one of the spare screens working with a DVI->VGA adapter).

Wow, I've never met another rabid Mac proponent in the workplace. When I mention Macs, I receive comments along the line of "They're hopeless. I had to use one in 1988, and their screens are too small". Sigh.
John. Busy lad.
