New Wachet Auf! ruft uns die ACPI BIOS
Machine hibernates on demand. I'm hoping it works, because hibernation is a realistic possibility on a gigantic disk.

Out of hibernation - fine - it seems.

Modem don't work. It's there, it responds to diagnostics, but post-hibernation pre-coldstart Windows cannot use it - extremely peculiar. The idea hits me immediately that hiberation has been taken too seriously by segments of the OS. So..

Cold start - modem lives. We scratch our heads, and go on.

Power management is a WIP.

Where were you in 72?
New Potential Idea.
Flip the BIOS switch called "PnP OS".

This silly thing exists because Microsoft decided they didn't or couldn't trust the BIOS makers to get it right and had Windows want to do it. When "Off", it does what it's supposed to and hands a properly initialized ACPI state to the OS. When "On", the BIOS does not fully initialize all devices, assuming that the OS will Do It It's Way. The reason I mention it is because a wake-up from Hibernation is an effort of co-ordination between the BIOS' ACPI stuff and the OS. Which this switch affects.

Wade.

Is it enough to love
Is it enough to breathe
Somebody rip my heart out
And leave me here to bleed

Is it enough to die
Somebody save my life
I'd rather be Anything but Ordinary
Please
