New The Hudson Bay Company and the East India Company
was based on shipping finished goods for fur, spice, gems and other resource extraction, cotton for industrial goods and provided jobs for working class expats with poor prospects at home. Today we export jobs import finished goods and provide service technology jobs to ensure the working class has no prospects.

As the Poets have mournfully sung.
Death takes the innocent young,
The rolling in money,
the screamingly funny,
And those who are very well hung.
W.H. Auden
New Until someone else translates,
I'm treating this as a nonsequiter. Bill, I really don't know what point you are addressing.

Where were you in 72?
New Tranzlation
The two companies he refers to were the import companies. If you worked for one of the two companies, the job prospects overseas (expat) were good. Locally, there were still a few good jobs created.

He's could have just said "I agree".

But today, the jobs go overseas, and NO opportunities are created locally. (I'm not sure I completely agree, but it is true that the two companies at least needed employees to unload ships, and today everything comes via Internet.) But then again, Fedex annouced an increase in business and profit. So the winners are Fedex and UPS?
