New So the real answer is...
...not unless I reconfigure the server.

New That's why they close ports
So you can't do that. If I remember my networking history correctly, that's the whole reason ports were created, was to enable you to decide what types of traffic to allow.

Implicitly condoning stupidity since 2001.
New But why shouldn't I be able...
...to say I want to send traffic from port x here and connect to port y there?

That is what I want to do...even if it isn't possible;-)

New You are saying that.
...but your firewall admins have determined your particular connection is a no-no. My guess is they wanted to block incoming traffic on port 22, and just blocked it all because it was easier. Ask them...?

Many fears are born of stupidity and ignorance -
Which you should be feeding with rumour and generalisation.

New You are right about that, but unfortunately...
the people who tend to need to get things running together don't tend to be the people whose job it is to make sure that bad things don't happen to the network, so the two wind up in direct conflict. The result is a slow arms race between the two groups.

Cheers,
Ben

It's their own fault! If they wanted to break the law without consequences, they should have gone into banking.
