New good riddance, MSIE-Mac?
Microsoft Corp. said Friday it will no longer develop versions of its popular Web-browsing software for Apple Computer's Macintosh system, saying Apple's own browsing software is a logical choice for Mac users.

New Don't the door hit your a** on the way out
Needless to say, I agree.

However, I've read several columns so far, including [link|http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/31205.html|this one] at the Register, which frets about Safari not being able to handle 100% of all web sites correctly.

I have a couple of things to say about that:

1. If we have to wait until *any* Web browser can handle 100% of all Web sites, then we might as well settle in and have a drink, since it'll be a long wait. As I recall, there were a few sites that didn't work that well with IE, either.

2. I have yet to hit a site with the current (v74) that hasn't worked. Even if I did, Mozilla seems to do just fine as my backup.

New Quick test
Does Safari handle the navigation at [link|http://www.computerworld.com|http://www.computerworld.com] correctly?

Konqueror (as of KDE 3.1 in debian unstable) doesn't, and that uses KHTML, too.

New All I got to say is...
[link|http://www.mozilla.org/projects/camino/|http://www.mozilla.org/projects/camino/]
Been using it for almost 9 months exclusively on OSX. It works on Peter's page and just about every one I have encountered except the most stubborn .asp hacks (which wouldn't run on Explorer either).

Microsoft is obviously trying to tell Apple to "back off" with Safari (and Quicktime), but it won't work. Camino (a OSX native mozilla build) is already the best browser I have used on any platform. I have my own email program (thankyouverymuch) and web design software, so just give me a browser. S'all I want.
Just a few thoughts,

Why, think of everything you've got.

New MSIE Windows is vanishing too
Not dead I don't think - but assimilated into the OS at some annoyingly deep level.

This is good though - no more "sorry we only support the biggest browser" shit. LCD development must return.

(Or, alternatively, kill the fucking hack that is the web and replace it with something decent).

Basically it looks like Microsoft wants to focus on revenue producing software for the Macintosh like Mac-Office and Virtual PC rather than IE.
