A University of New Mexico professor on Friday apologized for telling a class earlier this week, "Anyone who can blow up the Pentagon has my vote." A state legislator who heard about the remark called for the firing of history professor Richard Berthold.

"It was inexcusable," Berthold said in a phone interview Friday. "I am sorry for acting like a complete and utter jerk. No, I'm certainly not applauding the slaughter of thousands of innocent people."
