Actually, Spice, I'd be interested in your take on things.
And I promise not to make fun, deride, or otherwise spit on your opinion in this matter. Can't speak for anybody else, but I'd like to see what the "average" Texan thinks of this whole mess.
They say a city in the desert lies/ The vanity of an ancient king/ But the city lies in broken pieces/ Where the wind howls and the vultures sing/ These are the works of man/ This is the sum of our ambition...

well...
After the implication that people in Texas needed to die over real estate practices, I was seriously contemplating iwethey--. I stayed away for almost a week before I decided to come back and just ignore the Texas bashing(like [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=101734|this] recent example).
As far as the Democrats fleeing the state, the impression I have (and get from the people I know) is that after 130+ years of majority rule, the Democrats are acting like little kids who take the game ball home when they don't get their way.
For more viewpoints, The Chronicle has a lot of [link|http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/special/03/legislature/1908229|reader feedback] on the issue.
As for the rest, I'll think on it tonight.

Just consider the sources
I grew up in and currently live in Wisconsin (you know, flyover country). I spent a few weeks in Austin a year ago on business. It is gorgeous; almost as pretty as western Wisconsin! I'd consider moving there; though Texas is behind Alaska on places to where I'd consider moving (remember, if Alaska decides to split in 2, Texas becomes the third largest state in the union. ;-p )

Apologies, Spice.
No ad hominem intended, ~ Only.. "if the foo shits, wear it" in other words. But yes, it's as silly as the "Left Coast" and the general dissing of say, 'California' thus all Californians (as self-cancelling as The Murican Peepul think ___).
I'll try to keep in mind that, while Dubya's sociopathic-career was born via Texans electing [him + Karl Rove's brains] -- well.. there's Molly Ivins too and.. and..
Wretchedly,
Ashton
