New Of course, Al Qaeda has become the catch all bogeyman
Anytime something happens the US Government yells Al Qaeda
New It's got all the indications of being al Qaeda, IMO.
Note that there was a bombing in Chechnya the same day. [link|http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A47358-2003May12.html|Washington Post]:

MOSCOW, May 13 (Tuesday) -- At least 41 people died and 200 or more were wounded today when a military-style truck rammed a steel barrier outside a Russian government compound in northern Chechnya and blew up. It was the second suicide attack in the lawless republic in five months.

The explosion destroyed three government buildings, including local police and security headquarters, and wiped out a half-dozen houses or apartment buildings on the central street in Znamenskoye, a town that has long been a showcase of Russia's efforts to pacify the war-battered republic.

Remember the US embassy bombings in Africa? Al Qaeda likes to have big events happen simultaneously, and there are ties between some of the Chechnya rebels and al Qaeda.... :-(

Regards,
Scott.
New Could very well be ...
But before anyone knew anything they were yelling Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda has become the execuse for everything.
New I think u & I are on same track here but ...

I have also concluded that here, we are in the minority. What is now happening is as predictable as the fact that Repubs intended invading Iraq long before 9/11 - this has since been forgotten by most folk esp by those Ashton calls the Nintendo-Eloi

((That phrase of Ashton's has always caught my fancy - I wonder how many understood the significance of it :-) If one reads H.G. Wells Time Machine, the words and intent in the phrase take on such depth :-) ))

Cheers

New My intention was
Glad you enjoyed it.. The connection didn't dawn lightly, and I meant most sincerely that this epithet be as excoriating as possible without actually saying, stupid fucking ___. (I assume that most folks here have read lots more science-novels (sci-fi has such cardboard connotation) than the general population.)

I thought HGW perfectly prescient in his carefully drawn depiction of the Eloi. And in fact, the more we have become dependent upon increasingly arcane techno for even the basics of obtaining water, doing sewage and.. just everything -- while simultaneously the average person knows less about how things work than many knew at age 13ish (when I was 13) -- we already have the ignorant consumer. Most have little idea how *anything* works, of the countless gadgets they 'use' .. generally minimally, for possessing no imagination of the basics or the possibilities.

HGW grokked this to fullness over a Century! ago (~ 1895? for The Time Machine) apparently a one able to extrapolate the already growing gap between the herd and those who troubled to learn anything. Unlike those naifs who imagined that a large well-fed population, able to delegate shit-work to machines - would use their freed time to become more aware of each other and of their environment, their history (!!) HGW understood somehow what 'LCD' means.

Was it Ben T. (?) who found the refs for a recent "attitude inventory" which revealed that, the poorer one's actual performance - the higher one's self-evaluation.

OK - so we're doomed. On the Beach was filmed in Oz! Of course then, we had Ava (and Fred Astaire not-dancing). Screw the stupid car races; I fancy going out like Potiphar Breen, the pre-computers statistician in PK Dick's short story, The Year of the Jackpot. [I just can't spoil it with more info].

We of the Eloi salute Britney and Shrub, Our Heroes.
New How did HGW understand the purpose of the siren(whistle)

In signalling the Eloi to enter the underground complexes (made to look like bomb or nuke shelters in the film versions).

I don't quite understand how he seemed to know of that concept back then.

But today we don't need the air-raid siren to harvest the eloi, we use a man, like Shrub. (and the Morlocks leaders he represents) to preach to them (eloi) & then they clamour to be harvested. We have one such Eloi on constant display here.

The whole book is free to read online (a chance to search for anyone interested :-)

Cheers

Doug Marker

New Can only surmise
- even in Olden days there was a tocsin (bell, whatever) to get the peasants behind the castle moat.. when the Repos were on a rampage. As to underground -?- I have to project that HGW may have had an inkling of nuclear energy.. umm immanent in all things (?) surely an idea of Higher-explosives than the gunpowder of the day. (Not that I imagine he grokked the very-simple mathematical cause of that-all: the chain reaction; what a perfect Boolean Operator, that! Just then. But had someone mentioned this key, most likely in a chemical sense du jour - can anyone doubt that he would have run with it?)

The alarums today: the brain-dead propaganda, your cheeldrun are in danger! support our Endless War on Oceania and - We Will Save You! (The fact that we may all save ourselves by merely cultivating a less exploitive midset re all others on the planet: That is unthinkable to all Nintendo-Eloi, as it was to my Gramma and her ilk. It is too sane for the true-believer of mindless cant. It's his RIGHT to live high on the hog forever, 'cause he be Murican or Saudi Prince or Donald Trump or just. armed. better.)

Damn but.. we be Dense. And fucking vicious while asleep in the brain-pan.
