I lost my maternal grandmother to lung disease some years ago. Fortunately, I didn't need to do any of the funeral arrangements, but I'd known her since I was very little and the loss of a relative is hard.
The Mother's Day reference is peculiarly apt because my mother and her mother had always had a rocky relationship with the result that my mother always found Mother's Day trying, even though she loved my siblings and I. However, in recent years, her mother had mellowed and they had begun to repair the problems from long ago.
