If you have never set up qmail before - or even if you have and wondered why it was such a chore - could I recommend [link\|http://www.courier-mta.org/\|Courier] instead. It was originally a qmail alternative (!), using maildir as it's native format and borrows qmail's .qmail files for end-user configuration. The client was not 100% honest about how much they would be willing to pay for the service, (what would you expect from people already spamming?) which killed the deal. I may be scum, but at least I'm not cheap scum.

After I had to find and re-compile another, unrelated piece of software to do something Mr Bernstein has decided he won't patch qmail to do* The second time, it was just painful.
