Time for a change
Windows Manager switches from print to e-mail in preparation for Microsoft's next act

By Brian Livingston April 18, 2003

This is the last installment of my column that will appear in InfoWorld. After today's print edition and the coming online publication of my final May 5 column, I'm converting Window Manager to an e-mail newsletter. To continue receiving my findings on graphical operating systems, you will need to visit www.briansbuzz.com and subscribe to my new publication, Brian's Buzz on Windows.

New When is Windows not Windows?
At the same time, Longhorn may enhance Microsoft's already strong lock-in factor. If the new product won't run Windows apps, it may be renamed so that it wouldn't even be Windows. Microsoft may then be free to embrace and extend without any old antitrust rulings applying.

Andrew, didn't you predict this would happen 'bout a year ago?

New Waste of time
who runs that junk?

Nobody serious.

Was at a friends last week and his XP machine crashed doing nothing but sit there.

How lame is that?

New Something's wrong with the machine.
Some people have to run that junk - I being one of them. We're looking to a better day when Debian is an option (soon!) but for now, work is XP only.

And it's actually very, VERY stable. At least, compared to Win9x... I only have 1-2 calls a day about minor stuff, and maybe 1-2 major calls a week.
After 9/11, Bush made two statements:
1. "Terrorists hate America because America is a land of freedom and opportunity."
2. "We intend to attack the root causes of terrorism."

Sounds like everything is going according to plan.
