I agree that what goes on inside a lot of theological training institutes would shock a lot of people with traditional Christian values. It is not a new problem.

I suspect a culture of isolation is fomented and we all know what that does.

New Wade, you might enjoy a book:
[link|http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/078795599X|A New Kind of Christian], which addresses "postmodern" Christianity. I don't think it does a good job of it's stated intent, but it's an interesting read on divorcing Jesus from the current culture, so those of us who dislike the trappings of the modern era can get on with life.

New That looks very interesting.
A lot of teaching in moderately evangelical churches (i.e. like the one I attend) makes the point of remembering the context of the scriptures. From reading the reviews, it sounds like this book takes that a few steps further.
