New Ramming threats existed in 70's, I heard
On PBS, I beleive, an expert said that there had been plane ramming threats even in the 70's, but I don't think they were Bin-related.

There are all kinds of different threats given. It is hard to fully protect from the full gammit and variety without huge expenditures and loss of cival liberties, which is what we are now going to see probably.

You can't put an agent on all 5 billion world citizens. And walking around with a nite-scope in Afgan would probably make a spy look suspicious.

Hindsite often distorts the picture.

New There's also modus operandi
bin Laden has supposedly been quite varied in his methods - the next attacks are unlikely to involve plane hijackings (though I suppose there may be some more people here still tasked to do that type of thing if they can.)

General aviation small planes are still grounded. An interesting report I heard yesterday was that those owning crop dusters have been instructed to actually disable their planes, not just keep them grounded.
Rest in peace, Jeremy, Mark, Thomas, and whoever else who helped overpower the hijackers on Flight 93.
New Prop planes are a nuicence anyhow
I won't miss them, and neither will air traffic specialists.

They are often noisey, and serve little practical use.

From the air-traffic controller's perspective, they have
to spend almost just as much resources tracking small planes
as big ones, because collisions are deadly regardless
of the plane size.

I don't know what to say to plane affeccionados, though.
Perhaps "plane reservations" can be set up in remote
areas.

New Not just prop planes
Helicopters, too; the local traffic reporters were grounded.

New Crop duster disabling? No uncited references please
Please don't make "I heard foo" comments without citing the source, URL reference if at all possible, otherwise network or media cite.

I've looked over the [link|http://www.aopa.org/|AOPA's site], and the most current reference I find says
9/19/01 8:47:39 AM, ET ? The National Security Council (NSC) met again last night at 5 p.m. EDT to consider VFR flight operations, but it made no decisions. VFR flight still is prohibited except in Alaska and with a few exceptions noted below..... Certain medevac and other emergency VFR flights are also permitted, along with Part 137 agricultural operations outside of Class B airspace.

Pilots are now required to obtain and check latest NOTAMs (notices to airman) prior to flight.

Pilots are again warned: VFR flight is prohibited. Fighter aircraft will intercept any civilian aircraft that takes off without an IFR flight plan, a discrete beacon code, and ATC clearance.

Peace.

What part of "gestalt" don't you understand?
New A pity...
...it's what I'd do.

Don't post WHY, but it's pretty obvious why you'd want people to do this.

New Pardon?
That didn't parse.

New It's not supposed to.
I'm trying not to leave ideas floating on the web. Got a PGP key? Got my address? Send me a query, encrypted with your private and my public key.

New Going stealth?
After the recent calls to put backdoors in everything, I've considered the possibility it's time to start using encryption on principle. That what you're doing? I'll take your silence as confirmation of this. ;)
This is my sig. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
