I wasn't aware that the old term of abuse "rosbeefs" was still in use. That goes back, what, a couple of centuries at least? Of course, the two countries were bitter rivals for much longer than they've been allies, and no doubt the British tabloids will go to town with this. I'm not one of those who believe that the French owe the principals of the liberation eternal gratitude, but "Dig up your rubbish, it is contaminating our soil" sprayed over a memorial/gravesite for British war dead does seem breathtakingly cheeky. [Edit: yes, the monument and graves date from the 1914-1918 conflict, but even so...]
