New Okay... Question... about WinXP
You know I have never really thought about this...

But, I just don't know how to capture LPT1: to a network QUEUE in WinXP without Novell's utils... this particular one is stumping me...

Tried the:
 net use lpt1: \\\\someserver\\hplj5sinx

I get something along the lines of cannot write data... when printing from a DOS application.

Best I can come-up with is the:
print
command.

It sucks.

Also, this SAME Ancient DOS app runs in WinXP just fine, as long as the DATA is local or on a "Windows" share from a Windows Machine. But from SAMBA it pukes complaining about locking... I have tried all sorts of combinations for locking, op-locks, fake-oplocks... I am beginning to think about updating samba to a newer version.

BTW, this anicient DOS app works just fine on Windows 95-98-98se on the SAMBA share... no matter what I do with locking... I am just a bit put off by it... as the company is leaning towards running Win98 on the new machines they just bought. Which I believe will is a bad thing. This DOS app is no longer around as the person that developed it died... they are looking at using standard tools.

New Re: Okay... Question... about WinXP
Win98 is a bad thing? You prefer a forced march to microso~1.com to register, register, and register again? You prefer the insecurity of raw sockets? (most likely the root of your Samba issues)

Are you running cmd.exe or command.com? Try running command.com from Windows 98 from cmd.exe.

Did you insert a SETVER command in config.sys for the DOS application?

Also check out "Compatibility Mode".

New Okay... let's assume one thing here...
Would I be asking *IF* I didn't try the compatibility mode or all the other stuff I know...

BTW, for the locking problem, it was the persistent links settings in WinXP... it remembered the "features" from the first connection to the resource... Before I connected again... I set all the samba locking mechanisms it needed...

Blew it away, restarted the machine... all is well on the locking problem.

I just need to be able to capture LPT1-9 now... and I have everything worked out. At least 1-3 that is...

New Weill, that looks right . .
Here's the command I've used successfuly on XP Home at a tax preparer's office:

net use lpt1: \\\\BISON\\LEXMARK /persistent:yes

Could something else be mucking with your LPT1: port?
[link|http://www.aaxnet.com|AAx]
New Well, for some reason...
...I thought I'd used the /persistent:yes... well obviously I didn't.

/me slaps forehead

net use lpt1: \\\\HOGWASH\\XEROX4050 /persistent:yes

Did the trick... undid it and did it without the /persistent:yes, it was broke... put it back... worked... friggin unbelievable...

Wow... Peter was right... I DO LOVE CMD.EXE... in a BAD way though...

Then again, twixt you, Peter and others... we got it covered here...
