New The economics of why security is hard
Didn't know whether to put this here or in the economics forum.

[link|http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/users/rja14/econsec.html|http://www.cl.cam.ac...ja14/econsec.html]

Start with [link|http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/ftp/users/rja14/econ.pdf|http://www.cl.cam.ac...rs/rja14/econ.pdf] and work your way through it. Lots of stuff about why companies act as they do, with random useful insights about other things.

For instance from there I found [link|http://www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa335.pdf|http://www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa335.pdf], which explains why people drive SUVs so badly...

Cheers,
Ben

New GREAT read on risk
Thanks, Ben! Some real gems in there, including:
The clamorous debate is characterized not by irrationality but by plural rationalities.
...a theme toward which I've been dragged repeatedly, in many disparate contexts, but never saw in such a useful, abstract statement before.

Many fears are born of stupidity and ignorance -
Which you should be feeding with rumour and generalisation.
