New Monster.com warns job seekers about ID theft
[link|http://www.siliconvalley.com/mld/siliconvalley/5285264.htm|warning]

Internet job board Monster.com, acknowledging a growing problem for online career sites, is e-mailing millions of job seekers, warning that fake listings are being used to gather and steal personal information.

An e-mail message from Monster, which arrived in many users' computer mailboxes Thursday, cautions that ``regrettably, from time to time, false job postings are listed online and used to illegally collect personal information from unsuspecting job seekers.''

Why would a job seeker give out their social security number or a bank account number anyway? Give it to the employer on the day you're standing in their HR department filling out the paperwork as a new employee.

New Not always
some of them required a SSN to do a background check before the Interview process for credit, criminal record, and previous employment checks.

I had a few companies do that to me, who passed me up when I wouldn't give them my SSN.

New Why are they going after the unemployed?
After all, it's not like they've got any credit worth speaking of...

(Yeah, I know. Easy targets and all that.)

New Because the unemployed
don't have the money to sue them.

Many jobs got listed and then closed within five days. Very suspect. Either they hired family, an insider, or the job posting was a scam.
