Just heard an interview with some general who babbled, "Now maybe they'll give the FBI the resources to combat terrorism" blah blah blah.

Assuming that it was foreign terrorists, the only way this could have really been prevented would have been to screen everyone entering the country. And even that wouldn't help too much, assuming [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=8270|(as drewk posted below)] it was indeed an inside job. How do you prevent a pilot who has been working for an airline for a couple of years from doing it? How do you keep other flight crew or attendants from smuggling weapons on board?

Assuming none of that is preventable, assuming the pilot isn't in on it himself, how is a pilot subject to a hijacking to know they're going to ram a plane into major buildings? The pilots involved were either in on it, killed, or gave up when the terrorists waved guns at them, never suspecting the hijackers' intent.

And even assuming it isn't an inside job, how is the FBI going to patrol thousands of miles of border with Mexico and Canada and coastlands? No, "beefing up the FBI" can't prevent a well-coordinated series of attacks like this, unless you plan to station an FBI agent or three on every domestic flight.
