New MS to buy Connectix (makers of Virtual PC)
[link|http://www.crn.com/sections/BreakingNews/breakingnews.asp?ArticleID=40038|http://www.crn.com/s...p?ArticleID=40038]

The software giant, which is expected to formally unveil the deal Thursday, will use the technology to allow customers to carve out multiple partitions on a single Intel-based server, allowing them to run multiple instances of a single operating system and multiple workloads.

Those multiple instances all being Windows I'm sure. So, how long before they drop Virtual PC for Mac and Windows?

New They're trying to kill OS/2 again.

:-)

AFAIK, Virtual PC is the only emulator that supports OS/2 (at least in some versions). VMWare doesn't.

:-(

Cheers,
Scott.
New not only does it support OS/2 as a guest
VPC also supports it as the host operating system. While I don't use it often, it is pretty slick to start up a Linux session on my OS/2 desktop.

New What's really cool, I think...
is VPC for the Mac. OS/2 can be run on it, though I haven't seen it myself (and no mention of it is in the v6 for Mac information from Connectix).

I'll have to break down and get a copy of VPC/Win before it disappears. I probably would have gotten one a few months ago if I had a copy of Warp 4. I'm still using Warp 3 Connect (and have never seen the need to upgrade). I've considered eCS but the price delta was too great.

Oh for infinite spare time, sufficient income for expenses, and free income for playthings! :-)

Cheers,
Scott.
New eCS pricing...
... is going to be coming down when 1.1 is released... thanks to having met some important marketing targets vis-a-vis IBM.
