New Does ANYBODY in S. Carolina have a brain?
..or have they all been surgically excised (or sold to the highest bidder)?

[link|http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/21577.html|Reference this article in The Register]

The bad news couldn't be clearer: "It is unlawful to manufacture, import, offer to the public, provide or otherwise traffic in any interactive digital device that does not include and utilize certified [DRM] security technologies."

Jeezus-we finally got rid of Strom, and the brain damage simply spreads to the other "senator" from that glorious outpost of moronity. There just aren't enough clue-by-fours to go around!

(Resistance is not futile...)
New No, that's what we have South Carolina for.
You've heard of a brain dump - well, this is our brainless dump.

Well, I am well aware of the low value that many legislators place on email. Nevertheless, Mr. Hollings has a [link|http://hollings.senate.gov/webform.html|convenient web form,] so I thought I might quickly and conveniently inform him of my opinion, pending communication via the U.S. Mail.

I entered the following, along with my complete and accurate personal contact information:

RE: the proposed Security Systems Standards and Certification Act

I am seriously concerned that the act would over-regulate the technology industry. There are many interactive devices for which DRM (Digital Rights Management) technology is neither applicable nor appropriate. And for those where it is appropriate, the regulations would stifle, if not criminalize, innovation.

And then I clicked the Submit button, and was greeted with a page that said, in H2 form, and I quote the page in its entirity hoping that this is a case where political discourse expands the idea of fair use to the logical maximum:

Access Denied

Senator Stevens also has a web site, at [link|http://stevens.senate.gov/|http://stevens.senate.gov/] , but when I went there, my system began to thrash in a manner that suggests a Java applet was involved. And I don't feel like having my system crash right now, so I cancelled my excursion there.

New Yes, they do have brains....
they know who's giving them money.

Unfortunately, many CongressCritters from both parties are quite willing to sell out to Hollywood/NYC.

New More sinister to me...
... is the clause excluding the players involved from antitrust issues.

Who is going to be providing the software for the decoding of this content on PCs...?

"Here's your new harddrive, sir. Note here the operating systems that are able to use it. Oh, you don't use Windows? You probably don't want to buy this then, it'd be a waste of money."

New Being from South Carolina, allow me to inform you
that Fritz has ALWAYS BEEN THIS STUPID.

Its one reason I've had to more or less not mind Strom, cause at least HE WAS THE SENIOR SENATOR.

(And Strom was never stupid. Bigoted, sure, but stupid? I don't think so).

and the brain damage simply spreads to the other "senator" from that glorious outpost of moronity. There just aren't enough clue-by-fours to go around!

Outpost of moronity? Care to put your politicans up? Andrew, being from CA has *no* room to talk. Not sure where you're from, but let me point out a harsh fact:
Ignorance knows no bounds. And its everywhere.

Of course, I know you're disappointed that Fritz is a democrat, so you can't go into your usual tirade. Too bad you aren't noting that Fritz, the (D), isn't any _different_.

Now, go rail against Massachusetts for a while, and New York.
