I don't know if they will go with this one or not. It's an akward fit in that MS needs console games not PC games right now, but on the other hand, bringing Blizzard into the fold would be a worthwhile move on it's own.

If they don't I expect to see them buy some other console developer this year, possibly more then one. The XBox isn't doing well, and MS needs content to catch up. If they don't do something soon, they might as well write the XBox until XBox2 is released.

New Wouldn't be good for Apple gamers
Blizzard is one of the major Mac game developers. If MS gets their hands on them, it'll be Bungie all over again.

Yikes.

But the XBox is a PC. This makes it a perfect fit.

Microsoft offers them the one thing most business people will pay any price for - the ability to say "we had no choice - everyone's doing it that way." -- [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=38978|Andrew Grygus]
New Wrong controlers
Yes, any Windows game could be made to run on an XBox, but this doesn't mean it would be a good idea.

Real time strategy games like WarcraftIII have never been popular on consoles because the controls are wrong. This sort of game needs a mouse and keyboard.

The same thing is true to a lesser degree in games like Diablo II which could be adapted to a console only by removing interface features to get the number of keys down.

To bulk up it's offerings, MS needs console style games.
