The forced march to Active Directory . .
. . is still meeting heavy resistance - and if they force too hard, the hold outs may switch, but not to Windows 2003.
If they'd left NT Domains as an option in 2000 server, NT would have gone away a whole lot easier - but Active Directory was a key element of World Domination. Few businesses need Active Directory.

"AD is the Big Ball of LEAD!!! We were not to believe Cheese."
That few businesses need AD is not Microsoft's problem - their problem is they haven't been able to convince these businesses that they want AD.
The large number of companies that announced complex $30,000 (and up)software tool suites to "help ease the pain of migration to Active Directory", and the many reviews these tools got in the tech press did not help Microsoft's marketing efforts one bit.

Yeah... hell *I* could have offered tools... thems ones you cited are just "*DAP" tools...
Hmmmm, maybe a linux console app... allowing only ONE thing... BWAHAHAHAH... Wow, I could EVEN charge them for the "Proprietary Hardware"... BWAHAHAHA by putting a Folkert-something-or-other-server image in the BIOS!!! HAHAHA!
That's of course the Machine for the "Boss's" office... ;) I'd just throw a $200 cube in the server room... HAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHA!!!
Why *ONLY* $30K... Mine is BETTER I'd charge $60K... and I could easily put eDIR on that Linux machine to fix AD anyway... ;)

I mean, I Perused this massive tome, saw how damn near every entry needed some addendum.. If using AD THEN ... do the following items 1) thru 23). Anyway, it was enough to convince me that I wouldn't be emgcy admin for a nearby massive Compaq server cum RAID. When an author writes this: An alternative approach is to upgrade your member server first, then take a year off and learn in detail how Active Directory works, and finally upgrade your PDC followed by your BDCs. A lot of admins seem to favor this approach! Wouldn't you think that a reader might blanche, eschew the obfuscation and Switch? Ashton

Of course
because Windows 2003 Server has not come out yet. So they have to have a "Legacy" system to support until it does come out. Maybe it will be called Windows 2004 Server by the time it comes out?

You're just being silly
It would not be logical for the Vulcans to use an OS as utterly non-deterministic as Winders. If you can't explain the behavior logically, how would the Vulcans ever handle it?
Nope, the Vulcans would logically decide that the data is important, not the OS. They would then insist that their Federation friends send them data in a universally readable format.

Just send them the data in a PDF file, no Word files. All presentations must be in HTML and PNG format, not Powerpoint.
