New Re: Microsoft loses showdown in Houston
This is interesting because despite what the Bretheren think, Windows is not the issue - Office is. Without Office, people lose the immediate reason for ignoring competing plaforms.

BTW please use width and height tags for images. Some of us have Windows at work. It's not that difficult.
-drl
New It was spurred by the count of the W/S installed with...
...Windoze OS on it... Where do you think MS was able to put 8 and 8 together...

so you are saying [image|http://membres.lycos.fr/tmcr/daystar/doomsday.jpg||||] "http://membres.lycos.fr/tmcr/daystar/doomsday.jpg" doesn't work in IE?

But this [image|http://membres.lycos.fr/tmcr/daystar/doomsday.jpg|||218|290] "http://membres.lycos.fr/tmcr/daystar/doomsday.jpg height=218 width=290" does work in IE?

What a BROKEN, utterly Screwed up POS browser it is. Yes it *IS* just a browser. But *AT LEAST* use one that at Follows the REAL standards and NOT the PSEUDO standards derived.

New works fine
-drl
New yes, can now see it inline
-drl
New How many images are you seeing?
1 or 2?

If you see only 1, then you have a broken XHTML Renderer.

If you see 2, then your renderer works as it should.

Since I made the policy about downloading and installing software here, I can't just flaunt my own rule by installing whatever I want. So I can't install Moziller, Opra, or sechlike.

Oh, well. I suppose you had to cover your Windows-running ass. So get it on a CD burned by a friend. No downloading, at least on your part.

Image? The one in Oh, Pun? I'm currently using Windows and it shows up just fine. Maybe you mean IE? I'm using Mozilla. Just check it in IE and yep, it's invisible, strange.

Hmm, just viewed the source and see what the issue is. When I added the image, I typed:

<img src=[link|http://www.os2.ss.com/connect/graphic.jpg|http://www.os2.ss.co...nnect/graphic.jpg] >

it's now:

<img src="[link|http://www.os2ss.com/connect/graphic.jpg|http://www.os2ss.com/connect/graphic.jpg]" border="0" alt="Image" height="" width="">

If I think to, I'll add them. I don't post graphics enough though, so I doubt I'll remember considering that I do see the image when I view the post.

New So, in a nut shell...
You are telling me, that *JUST* because Internet Explorer *NEEDS* these specifiers, I am going to have to add and additional 16 bytes of stream for every graphic I send out?

Doesn't seem like a lot, but multiply that by the ~5-6 million hits a day some websites get. Multiply that by how many Graphics are now sent from a typical "News and Entertainment" website and you are looking at roughly 100 Million Bytes of Traffic that could have went for better response, more content, addtional services, *LESS* cost...

And *WE* wonder why the Worst World Web is so DAMNED slow these days...

New Re: So, in a nut shell...
As Darrell pointed out, you don't even need to put in numbers, just the empty tags indicating that "this is really a graphic".
-drl
New That *IS*...
with a blank height and wdith...

H = 1
E = 2
I = 3
G = 4
H = 5
T = 6
= = 7
" = 8
" = 9
  = 10
W = 11
I = 12
D = 13
T = 14
H = 15
= = 16
" = 17
" = 18

There 18 additional Bytes...Sorry I was 2 bytes OFF to the conservative side.

I didn't specify width or height in my post. iwethey added them, but as width="" and height="".

Which then triggered the IE bug.

I've changed that so the width and height attributes are included only if specified.

Displaying images as links cuts down on unnecessary image-frippery, too.

Sure, one more click for you... But that's the price one gets to pay for using an inferior browser.
