The staff organizing the prayer meeting said that Korean Church members immediately came together to pray for repentance, reconciliation, and hope with respect to the recent national crisis. According to them, the meeting was arranged one week after several Christian leaders requested it. Pastor Shin Shin-mook, the co-chairman of the CCK, said the leaders of many Christian orders agreed upon the fact that the recent North Korean nuclear development and the country's anti-American demonstrations are menacing peace on the peninsula. Another prayer meeting is to be held at the same place at 3:00pm on January 19.

The Reverend Park Young-ryul, the senior director of the meeting, said the government should do its best to establish peace on the peninsula, while resolving the North Korea nuclear crisis through diplomatic efforts. Park said, "We are against a withdrawal of the United States Forces in Korea, which is not helpful for the security situation in the country. At the same time, we call for suspension of any action proliferating anti-American sentiments." He continued, "North Korea should immediately give up its nuclear development. We are strongly against any withdrawal of the USFK." Koh Sang-kwon, an elder at the Full Gospel Church, said he had great concerns on current situation where candlelight vigils were hijacked by anti-American movements.
