Does "mt" give it to you? (my tape drives are listed in /dev/rmt) mt -f /dev/rmt/1un status Quantum DLT7000 tape drive: sense key(0x0)= No Additional Sense residual= 0 retries= 0 file no= 52 block no= 0

My apologies for bringing up a relatively simple question like this, but it's been several years since I've administered one of these beasts. (Completely forgot about mt...<smacks hand to forehead repeatedly>)
