New war of 1812 vs war on Iraq
[link|http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=30193|http://www.worldnetd...?ARTICLE_ID=30193]
Few history books \ufffd and none that you'll find in the schools \ufffd recount the depth of actual hatred Americans in Washington, D.C., evidenced toward Madison as the British closed in on the city, since they correctly attributed the pointless war to him. One young lady was noted for stopping her carriage in front of the White House, loosening her very long tresses, and saying "I pray that I may have the privilege of parting with this hair, in order to make a noose for Mr. Madison." I find the story exceptional, because if someone even intimated feeling like that today, they'd be arrested, and charged with any number of crimes. It's known that Dolly Madison was actually afraid her husband might be lynched by those opposing the war.

New Of course, the other side...
...of the equation was that prior to the start of the war, there were mobs out in force that favored the war - burning down the office of newspapers that criticized the march to war, tar & feathering their owners, etc... The War of 1812 was a nasty business all the way around. Little wonder that when the war started going wrong, these people got their comeuponce.
New Ben "Beast" Butler and General Order 28
The ladies of New Orleans were not happy living in an occupied city. They would savage passing Union officers with insults, sometimes going so far as to dump the contents of their chamber pots on or near them.

"Beast" Butler, a complete imcompetent in the field, issued the following order:

As the officers and soldiers of the United States have been subjected to repeated insults from the women (calling themselves ladies) of New Orleans, in return for the most scrupulous noninterference and courtesy on our part, it is ordered that hereafter when any female shall, by word, gesture, or movement, insult or show contempt for any officer or soldier of the United States, she shall be regarded and held liable to be treated as a woman of the town plying her avocation.

This enraged the Southern men and led to Butler being branded a common outlaw by Davis himself - had he been captured, he would have hanged for this insult alone.
