Nice rant. We may hope that some of the folks who take the present web for granted, like turning on the A/C (you never think to thank the inventor, do ya?) .. just might ponder a bit --> the direction many sinister forces are going.
(Or is that, many dextero forces are going? since this seems very much a part of the Right-agenda. There ain't no sinistro / Left-agenda advocating this kind of crap, that I'm aware of.)
Way I see your fundraiser is, that 1 in 7 regular watchers of PBS programs or listeners to NPR - get off their dead asses and send in $. The other 6 freeload. Actually 1 in 7 may be better than for a lot of other 'free' service == done by volunteer labor. All is taken for granted - like the ability to simply cut & paste something on the web:

Let us know if you can, how much gets raised for EFF after a few months? Kinda curious to learn if... those who have the moxie to despise Microsloth (with a little help in formulating Why.. via Alex & Co.) put as much money where mouth is -- as the ordinary public.
