COMMENTS SOUGHT ON CHANGES TO COPYRIGHT LAW
The federal Copyright Office is seeking comments on the Digital
Copyright Millennium Act. This law was passed in 1998 to protect
copyrighted materials from copying. Comments are being solicited
for possible changes to the law. The whole thing will be forwarded
to the librarian of Congress, who will decide what changes to make.

The DCMA has been controversial. Critics claim that the law can be
used to hold back technology development. Most famously, a Russian
programmer was arrested and charged with violating the DCMA. He was
released, but his company is being prosecuted. His product thwarts
protections in Adobe's e-book format. A form for comments is at:
