In the 60s those of us on the left were warned about using the term 'fascist' for similar reasons
so 35 years later fascism is much closer but no one is supposed to mention it

there is a difference between asserting the unproven (Wellstone was murdered) and stating the obvious (rights are being limited more and more)

New Republicans are Radicals
The key point of Republican radicalism has always been to co-opt the power of the states in favor of centralized Federal authority. This is why ultimately people don't matter to them - they are just an concrete inconvenience standing in the way of their radical abstractions.

You can argue that the current trend is an endorsement of radicalism, and that the US has never lost its revolutionary fervor - only now the revolution is consuming its own children.
