New While I respect the sheer volume of machines ...
I have to throw a flag on your naming convention. Are you a farkin machine, too? Geez, pick something human to name them after. Mythology, pop-culture ... something.

New Re: When u been at as long as this hack

ya end up with the simplest & shortest of names

ia always stood for Internet Age (a company I started back in the Internet glory days)

ds stands for disk or data server

tp stands for ThinkPad (I used to only have IBM notebooks)

pda is self evident

all easy to type all as clear as the sun on a shiny day (too me) :-)

also allowed me to introduce nw machines quickly without gett my brain page faulting trying to remember the names (have too many years of names & passwords cloging the virtual dataset :-)

Cheers

Doug

(PS my passwords are no where near that simple :-)

As CNAMEs, yes.

uncle-enzo.linuxmafia.com thus has a bunch of CNAMEs, including "enzo". Hell, you can have CNAMEs of 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., if you're that typing-adverse.

Suspect is the Sony PCG-U1, am I mistaken?

*GRUMBLE*... and I ALMOST had one at work... (before I left) except the DIT decided we couldn't support it... BAH! Never mind about 40 people wanted one..

I still may get one...

New Re: I suspect I am very jealous.... YEA that it is

I just *love* that machine - the screen is a work of art

Any PC with a 6inch screen that can disply 1024 x 768 & I can read it (even though I use 2.0 magnification glasses), is just incredible. But it has a button on the lid that alt flips it from 800x600 to 1024x768.

Trouble is I tend to carry lots of PCMCIA cards with it & am now wishing for a new model that is 1/2 the weight (say about 0.5 lb) & has W-Fi & Bluetooth built in plus a V92 modem built in, and comes with 256mb ram builtin one mem slot instead of the two 128mb chips it has & can accept additional 512mb chip. Am not asking for too much - oh yes it has to be as cheap as the current model.

The garbage I lug around with it ...

AudioVox RTM-8000 3-band GSM/GPRS Phone (so tiny !!! - but also needs a Compact flash type II to PCMCIA adapter when not used in PDA)
Eagle-Tec W802.11b i-Fi card
Eagle Tech V90 Modem card (for phone access when nothing else is avail)
3COM Bluetooth card (but am losing patience with that technology so will dump it)
128mb Memstick in a PCMCIA adapter
128mb SD Flash Card in a PCMCIA adapter
256mb Compact Flash Card in a CF type 1 adapter

Natch -

At times my head's virtual pagein faults & my organic memory goes back to when my pc had a 4 mhz chip (then 8, then 12 then 16 then 24 then 33 then 66 then 120 then 333 then 500 then *^&%$$##2 ---- PAGE FAULT!!!!).

Perhaps I just can't get used to typing Ghz - it looks odd <grin>
