Good Reason?
I can think of good reasons to have warp cores. There is a small problem - warp cores don't exist, and never will. Missile shields are on that level. They don't exist, and never will. I worked on Star Wars, the problems are the same now as then, despite a 1000-fold increase in computing power. There is no way to deal with all the possible decoys. The limitation is in radar systems.
Moreover, it's 200 bil down the drain, for essentially nothing. Reagan drained the economy dry in the 80s, by the early 90s we were in a deep recession. Want that again?
