New The Baen Free Books experience
...with filesharing has [link|http://www.baen.com/library/palaver6.htm|been good].

Considering that on my short list of books that I have bought but not yet read there is one that I read a good chunk of for free before I bought it, I can see how their point works. And adding one more anecdote, after I learned more about Harlan Ellison's opinions on copyright I decided not to buy anything more by him. So not only does he not have anecdotes of gained sales, but he also has one of lost sales.

Cheers,
Ben

New All you have to do is watch free NOT online library working
I go in and goto new titles. I read a lot about 3-7 books a week. By perusing the library offerings I know when a new book by certain authors is available now thru purchase or I can get on the waiting list at the library. With certain authors I will purchase the book. At 27-30 a pop for a new offering the public library allows me to become informed on my purchasing decision. An on line library or music offering is (almost) the same as the public library. On the opposite side is a multipage diatribe against public libraries by Dennis Wheatley a favorite author of mine who feels that every borrowing is cash out of his pocket.
