Solaris... Exactly my point! You made my case for me....Thanks... saves typing!Solaris, well I have only one term for it... CF. (it's just me I know, but DAM!) it compromises nearly everywhere trying to be all things everywhere."absolute horseshit it is completely configurable via silly in any manor you please and crosslinks the spots where a functional nixadmin unfamiliar with Solaris can always find them.
Was wondering *IF* someone was gonna point that one out... but I still see it as close to REAL UNIX as I want it to be... cept fer the management of resources... sysman(-station too) is just clueless about it... of course [link|http://www.webmin.com|Webmin] can probably do it better...*BSD (yes, I'll lump them together) a take off on Tru64, they work well, do good work, but...but... well... just look at it, you'll understand... compromises to make things work... not optimal anywhere.WTF are you talking about tru64 is cak on a stump BSD is the non Sys5.4 code developed independently when Clueless64 was a wet dream in DECs crotch after it made some decent hardware and didnt wanto pay bell labs for source. BSD has been around as long as nix itself (almost) and dec nix was an afterthought when they couldnt push open vms down everyones throat.
As for:
Evidently you have not seen 4.3.3 lately... they actually have made it better for those of us that prefer command line operations... more standard approach... Now 5.x... nuther story... it's more broke than ever... but they understand my complaints about it... and actually have listened... Something about us soon to be actually taking delivery of a IBM 670 with the assurance they WILL fix my concerns... among other staunch people like me...AIX, is just plain bad in places, Great in others, "ehhh" in yet other areas.AIX is no longer Unix if you cannot do all shit^h^h^hmit at the command line in standard (sort of) /etc /rc* /usr/*
As for this comment:
FSCKING academics never had a real job :-)If it wasn't fer us in Academics, neither would you!!!!! As we all know, AT&T couldn't develop it and enlisted the help of "the Best minds in IT, are *IN* Academics" people back in the day...
*HAAAAHAAAAH!* *TAKE that!* You dastardly deviant MAN!
