New Do not laugh too hard
The pyramids had trap tunnels very similar to that to keep grave robbers out.

It would be quite reasonable to use a robot on one rather than risk a person.

New Most elaborate ones too..
Sliding slabs and dastardly trip mechanisms, I heard.

But the foresight of including such in a 5" sized hole (if indeed their bore-sighting eptness permitted nice long straight ones) suggests to me -

Paranoia about trained rats, ferrets?
One-upmanship run amok - against even undreamed of techno silliness?
Prescience: homo-sap is so snoopish + greedy: someday someone Would try to get in, and predictably.. gold would be a good enough reason, any old time.

But hey, fellow analyzers to distraction - it's a bloody cartoon!
(I dunno if they bothered to whittle such tiny holes (?) even for ventilation) Of course too, they weren't handicapped with John Maynard Keynes to demonstrate the Econ inefficiency of their entire design and the unlikelihood of getting it into production, for the profit of the Pharaohs' Corporate successors. Now if they predicted Those! - no wonder it was a death-obsessed culture..

(And they were right on the 'Money': so is ours!)
